SQUAMISH NATION

NOTICE OF PROPOSED LOCAL REVENUE LAW AND INVITATION TO MAKE REPRESENTATIONS

THIS NOTICE is given pursuant to section 6 of the First Nations Fiscal Management Act (the “FMA”) and in accordance with the First Nations Tax Commission Standards Respecting Notices Relating to Local Revenue Laws, 2018.

The Squamish Nation (the “First Nation”) proposes to enact the Squamish Nation Sen̓áḵw Water Services Fee Law, 2025 (the “Proposed Law”).

DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED LAW:  The Proposed Law is made under the authority of paragraph 5(1)(a.1) of the FMA. The Proposed Law applies to Kitsilano No. 6 ("IR 6") only, where a development, commonly referred to as "Sen̓áḵw," is underway. The Proposed Law authorizes the First Nation to levy fees for the provision of water services to the holders of interests within IR6 at rates that correlate with the City of Vancouver Water Works By-law No. 4848, as modified by the Squamish Nation Senakw Water Works By-law 2022, as amended or replaced from time to time, plus an administrative fee $350 to cover the First Nation's costs of administration of the water services. The fees levied by the First Nation pursuant to the Proposed Law reflect the projected cost of the First Nation in providing water services to IR6.

The fee law report provides a summary of the projected cost of the service, how the cost of the service was determined, and the proportion of the total cost that the First Nation will recover through the fees set out in the Proposed Law.

A copy of the Proposed Law and fee law report may be obtained from the First Nation at the address set out below. A copy of the fee law report and a description of the key elements of the Proposed Law may be viewed on the First Nation website at www.squamish.net.

WRITTEN REPRESENTATIONS: The Council of the First Nation invites written representations regarding the Proposed Law.  If you wish to make a written representation, your written representation must be received by the First Nation at the address set out below, by 4:00 pm on June 16, 2025. Council will consider all written representations received in accordance with this Notice before enacting the Proposed Law.
