Legislative Review of the Cannabis Act: Release of Expert Panel’s Final Report
The Expert Panel conducting the legislative review of the Cannabis Act has published its final report entitled Legislative Review of the Cannabis Act: Final Report of the Expert Panel [https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/publications/drugs-medication/legislative-review-cannabis-act-final-report-expert-panel]. The report provides recommendations on areas of the cannabis framework and its implementation that could be improved.
Pursuant to a statutory requirement of the Cannabis Act, the Expert Panel was asked to assess progress made towards achieving the Cannabis Act’s objectives and to outline priority areas to improve the functioning of the framework. This included assessing the impact of cannabis on Indigenous persons and communities.
The Expert Panel held nearly 140 engagement sessions and heard from over 600 participants to inform its work. This included meetings with First Nations communities, organizations and leaders.
